Following yesterday’s news that the Nintendo 3DS could be dropping in price, analyst Piers Harding-Rolls suggests that the system could be priced around £150 to £155 recommended retail price.
Nintendo announced yesterday it would be dropping the price of its 3D handheld after just a few months on shelves.
The new UK price, still unannounced by Nintendo, will come into effect starting August 12.
“This aggressive price cut is a calculated risk,” explains Harding-Rolls who spoke with Eurogamer regarding the price cut. “Nintendo needs to build some 3DS momentum in the run up to the holiday quarter, when much of its best content will hit the platform.”
“The 3DS was expected to see the company through the [home] console transition from Wii to Wii U, but the platform has been partly let down by a lack of content. If there is no momentum in the platform, third parties are more likely to delay or even shelve game releases, which will only exacerbate the situation.”
The Nintendo 3DS launched in the UK on March 25.
