During an investor’s meeting yesterday, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has revealed a shopping channel that will be available to early adopters of the 3DS when it launches in March 2011.
Working in a similar vein to the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 digital marketplaces, the Shopping Channel will be a hub for gamers where they can try demos, view trailers and promotions and download games, including classics from the Game Boy era. There’s also a social aspect to the channel, allowing gamers to rate games and give their opinions. Iwata says the channel will allow users to window shop thanks to a "rack" system, where you can browse games, choose to buy, download a demo, or watch a trailer and read other people’s comments that have purchased the title. A search function also aims to make browsing easy.
While Japan gets its hands on the 3DS in January 2011, North American and European markets will have to wait until March.
