Nintendo has confirmed that the Nintendo 3DS has sold over 300,000 units in Europe during its first 48 hours on shelves.
The official number provided by Nintendo is exactly 303,000 sales of the 3DS during its opening weekend in Europe.
In the UK alone, the new handheld sold over 113,000 units during the launch weekend, breaking former record of fastest-selling Nintendo console held by the Nintendo Wii.
"Nintendo 3DS allows people to experience, for the first time, 3D technology on the move and at home, with fun and surprises for all to enjoy. With the built-in pick-up-and-play Face Raiders game and StreetPass feature adding new dimensions to the already diverse line-up of launch titles, Nintendo 3DS has struck a chord with gamers old and new," said Laurent Fischer, Nintendo of Europe’s Managing Director of Marketing & PR.
Last week Nintendo marketing manager James Honeywell told GamerZines that pre-orders of the Nintendo 3DS were around 140,000 in the UK alone meaning the system has missed this number by around 27,000 sales.
The Nintendo 3DS launched in Europe last Friday.
