Lego Indiana Jones preview Xbox 360

Lego Indiana Jones preview Xbox 360

After the massive success of the Lego Star Wars games on pretty much all platforms, it's no surprise that the concept is to be repeated, and what better films to base it on than the ever-popular Indiana Jones series? Tying in nicely with the arrival in cinemas of the fourth Indiana Jones film, Lego Indy will be grabbing his hat and whip and swashbuckling his way through the original trilogy. Fans of the films and of the Lego Star Wars games will be waiting impatiently for this one - we've been lucky enough this month to go hands-on with the unfinished game, and as you'll find out in our full preview, we're sure that Lego Indiana Jones will live up to expectations.

Lego Indiana Jones preview for Xbox 360

The LEGO Star Wars games had a near-universal appeal - little surprise given their two key components. After all, if anything can bring out the big kid in anyone, it's LEGO, while the Star Wars films (or the original trilogy at least) have transported millions of saucer-eyed fans to galaxies far, far away. The success of Traveller's Tales' actionadventures is testament to how skilfully the developer married the two, providing accessible, fun gaming experiences that were suitable to gamers of any age and skill level.

For LEGO Indiana Jones, it would have been easy for the developer to simply re-skin the Star Wars games with more organic environments, but in the early stages of development, it became clear that wasn't going to work. Instead, LEGO Indy is a slower-paced and more thoughtful experience, the levels filled with more puzzles, traps and exploration than the simple blasting and constructing in LSW. That's not to say that there won't be more actionpacked sequences - indeed, one barroom shoot-out we witnessed was a particular highlight - but it mixes things up a little more, and thus feels like a more varied experience.
