Far Cry 2 preview Xbox 360Not just your average first-person shooter, Far Cry 2 has a tough act to follow in its predecessor Far Cry, and from what we've seen so far, it'll live up to it nicely. In the hands of new developers Ubisoft, the sequel has advanced significantly and there are lots of developments since the original. For a start, there's been a change of location, from tropical island to deepest Africa, with graphics and effects that make it totally immersive. We also sense a change of mood and tone in Far Cry 2 - it's thought-provoking and involves some real moral issues as the plot unfolds. Neither, despite appearances, is the shift of development team - with series creators Crytek now under EA's wing, and making games to showcase their considerable technical prowess, it's been left to Ubisoft's talented Montreal team to pick up the pieces. Yet the fragments are coming together so nicely, that you'd be hard pushed to tell that there's been a change of developer. No, the key difference between Far Cry 2 and the original is one of tone. While the original descended into schlock horror, its sequel ventures into dark-hearted, morally-questioning territory. By the end of the game you'll be forced to consider the deeper meaning behind the nature of your quest, and confront the (almost literal) monster it's turned you into.
