FIFA Street 3 review Xbox 360

FIFA Street 3 review Xbox 360

Football takes to the streets in FIFA Street 3, the FIFA footie spin-off that takes you off the pitch. It's an entirely different approach to soccer to the one taken in the big tournament style football games like the original FIFA series and PES. FIFA Street 3 follows the street basketball game model, with lots of emphasis on trick shots and fast-moving spectacle. So is it one for serious footie fans, or is it a one-trick wonder? We've reviewed FIFA Street 3 in full in this issue - find out all about it now!

FIFA Street 3 review for Xbox 360
Football is not basketball, so why on earth have EA used the NBA Street Homecourt engine as the basis for this FIFA footy spin-off? Afterall, football makes for good videogames, especially in the guise of the slavishly authentic FIFA Football and Pro Evolution Soccer. So why turn it into an approximation of something you play with your giant hands? Well, apart from dripping a few extra quid out of the pricey FIFA license, and offering up a different take in a fairly samey market, FIFA Street is really for people who hate the beautiful game.

Street cuts out all the ‘boring' stuff, such as solid defending, tactics and flowing passing play in favour of glamorous individual flair and infeasible trickery. This is a game inspired by football, but more akin to free-running or salsa dancing with players that twitch and heave as they skip around the pitch. It's fake, it's ludicrous and yet it still manages to appeal to a guilty corner of our football-soaked brain. It quenches our thirst for sublime skill, panders to our occasional laziness when targeting a shot and indulges our predisposition for the spectacular.
