Soldier of Fortune Payback review Xbox 360The games of the Soldier of Fortune series follow a certain path, namely a violent, fast and furious tour of the world's warzones and trouble-spots, and this latest instalment, Payback, is no exception to the formula. This time, the gore is turned up to eleven, and the plot takes second place to the action in this larger-than-life shooter. Comparisons with such recent combat games as Call of Duty 4 are inevitable - how will Payback, big and brash as it is, stand up to the competition? We've got a full review in this issue of 360Zine - find out what we think now! ![]() Soldier of Fortune Payback review for Xbox 360 Ditching the plot and turning the gore to max results in a game so ridiculous, it's the equivalent of assembling an army of Action Man toys and adding fireworks, zippo lighters and large blobs of tomato sauce to the proceedings. The gore is taken to silly extremes, you see. You can blow heads off enemies, remove limbs with a brief burst of fire and then watch as they spasm in buckets of blood. On paper, it sounds fun (and hugely distasteful) and it is - for a couple of hours until the cracks begin to show. Visually, Payback features visuals similar to Call of Duty 4 (but without the polish) and steals the control system wholesale. Individually, these things don't matter if you're after an insane arcade runaround and aren't bothered about a backstory or the characters themselves.
