Fallout 3 preview Xbox 360

Fallout 3 preview Xbox 360

The first two Fallout games were superior PC RPGs set in a post-apocalyptic world - it's eleven years since the start of the series and finally after a long wait, the third instalment is due out this year. It's coming to us courtesy of Bethesda Softworks, the team who brought us mega-RPG Oblivion, and Fallout 3 will in fact use the same engine as Oblivion, but to even better effect, with still more detailed environments and some stunning effects. There's still a while to wait, but to whet your appetite, we've got a first look preview of Fallout 3 in this issue of 360Zine.

Fallout 3 preview for Xbox 360
The original Fallout was an ahead-of-its-time PC RPG which was set in a futuristic nuclear wasteland in California, and featured a rich seam of tar-black humour throughout its intelligent plot, supplemented by some surprisingly advanced nonlinear gameplay. Eleven years on - and three years after Bethesda took the reins, with Oblivion requiring completion before they began work on this - the third game in the series is almost here. Given the quality of the first two Fallout games, we're very excited.

What do we know?
The game uses the same engine as Oblivion, with a choice of third or first-person perspective, but it looks even more impressive, with more detailed environments and some gruesome effects. The original's turn-based battles have been replaced by a more action-oriented approach, with the ‘assisted targeting' system allowing you to inflict very specific injuries upon your opponents via a pause menu.
