Forget Resident Evil, the real first survival-horror videogame was Infogrames' incredibly atmospheric 1992 hit Alone In The Dark. With its spooky atmosphere and terrifying shocks, it kickstarted one of the most popular genres in modern videogaming. The New Nightmare was the last game in the series, back in 2001 - about time for a revival, don't you think?

What do we know?
The series has always been known for its innovations, and this latest title is no exception. Taking influences from modern TV dramas like 24, the game has a more episodic approach, with many levels ending on cliffhangers or plot twists. With its single story arc making for a compelling piece of drama, it's as suited to a lengthy play session as its interesting structure is for quick fix gaming. Rather than the haunted-house approach, this time the game is set in Central Park, where several dark secrets lie, and we don't just mean drunken teens and aggressive hobos...
